Coordinate Algebra Parents and Students:
I have spoken with a few classes about trying out a new method in our math class. I have assigned two videos to watch for homework tomorrow night. These videos are going to introduce a new concept to your child. They may or may not get it the first time-that's ok. The point is for them to watch the video, maybe twice, and get an idea of what they are going to do in class the next day. On Friday, when your children come to class, we will get right to work practicing their new concept and applying it to real-life situations.
Note: if your child cannot access these videos at home, that's is ok. They have a few options: they can stay after school on Thursday afternoon and watch them in my classroom, they can come early Friday morning and watch them in the media center, or they can watch them at the beginning of class, and then join in once they are through. I encourage your child to use one of the first two options, since the third will cause them to miss out on other things in class.
Thank you for helping us out with this idea. The kids seem excited about this and there is a lot of research showing that this can increase your child's understanding in math. If you have any questions, feel free to give me a call or send an email.
